Frosting, Boiled, Mom's (Grandma's)
Ingredients
- 1 egg white
- 1 cup sugar
- 1/3 cup water
- 1 tablespoon corn syrup
- 1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
Directions
- Put the egg white in a cold mixing bowl with a whisk attachment
- Mix the rest of the ingredients except vanilla in a pan and bring to a hard rolling boil. While it is coming to a boil only stir until sugar is dissolved and then don’t stir anymore.
- Boil one minute more (this should be around 245 degrees on a candy thermometer - soft ball stage)
- While waiting for the final minute start whipping the egg white
Remove from heat.
- Add slowly to stiff beaten egg white while mixer is on… Pour slowly, the sugar mixture is HOT.
- Beat until spreading consistency (about 5 to 7 minutes)
