A rich, baked custard-style macaroni and cheese from Paula’s Savannah restaurant.
Ingredients
- 2 cups elbow macaroni, cooked and drained
- 2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
- 3 large eggs, beaten
- 1/2 cup sour cream
- 1 cup whole milk
- 4 tablespoons butter, cut into pieces
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
Directions
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F and lightly grease a 2-quart baking dish.
- In a large bowl, combine the cooked macaroni with 1 1/2 cups of the cheese.
- Whisk together the eggs, sour cream, milk, salt, and pepper, then stir into the macaroni.
Dot the butter pieces over the top.
- Transfer to the baking dish and top with the remaining 1/2 cup cheese.
- Bake for 30 to 35 minutes, until set and golden. Let rest a few minutes before serving.
