The Lady & Sons Macaroni and Cheese

A rich, baked custard-style macaroni and cheese from Paula’s Savannah restaurant.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups elbow macaroni, cooked and drained
  • 2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 3 large eggs, beaten
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 4 tablespoons butter, cut into pieces
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

Directions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F and lightly grease a 2-quart baking dish.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the cooked macaroni with 1 1/2 cups of the cheese.
  3. Whisk together the eggs, sour cream, milk, salt, and pepper, then stir into the macaroni.

Dot the butter pieces over the top.

  1. Transfer to the baking dish and top with the remaining 1/2 cup cheese.
  2. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes, until set and golden. Let rest a few minutes before serving.
