Tall, flaky Southern buttermilk biscuits with golden tops.
Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 6 tablespoons cold butter, cubed
- 3/4 cup cold buttermilk
- 2 tablespoons butter, melted (for brushing)
Directions
Preheat the oven to 425 degrees F.
- Whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar.
- Cut in the cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Stir in the buttermilk just until a soft dough forms; do not overwork.
- Turn out onto a floured surface, pat to 3/4-inch thick, and cut with a round cutter.
- Place biscuits on a baking sheet so the sides touch and brush with melted butter.
- Bake for 12 to 15 minutes, until risen and golden.
