Paula’s signature baked garlic cheese grits - grits simmered in chicken broth, loaded with cheddar and egg, and baked under a white-cheddar crust.
Ingredients
- 6 cups chicken broth
- 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon pepper
- 2 cups regular grits
- 16 oz cubed cheddar cheese
- 1/2 cup milk
- 4 eggs, beaten
- 1 stick butter
- 8 oz grated sharp white cheddar cheese
Directions
- Heat the oven to 350 F and grease a 4-quart casserole dish.
- Bring the broth, garlic powder, salt, and pepper to a boil. Whisk in the grits until combined.
- Reduce the heat to low and simmer until thick, about 8 minutes.
- Stir in the cubed cheddar and milk, then gradually incorporate the eggs and butter.
- Transfer to the dish, top with the grated white cheddar, and bake 35 to 40 minutes until set.
