Paula’s signature baked garlic cheese grits - grits simmered in chicken broth, loaded with cheddar and egg, and baked under a white-cheddar crust.

Ingredients

  • 6 cups chicken broth
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • 2 cups regular grits
  • 16 oz cubed cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 4 eggs, beaten
  • 1 stick butter
  • 8 oz grated sharp white cheddar cheese

Directions

  1. Heat the oven to 350 F and grease a 4-quart casserole dish.
  2. Bring the broth, garlic powder, salt, and pepper to a boil. Whisk in the grits until combined.
  3. Reduce the heat to low and simmer until thick, about 8 minutes.
  4. Stir in the cubed cheddar and milk, then gradually incorporate the eggs and butter.
  5. Transfer to the dish, top with the grated white cheddar, and bake 35 to 40 minutes until set.
