Simple Yellow Butter Cake
An all-purpose buttery yellow cake that takes any frosting or simply summer fruit and a scoop of ice cream.
An all-purpose buttery yellow cake that takes any frosting or simply summer fruit and a scoop of ice cream.
Ingredients
- 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 4 large eggs
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 1/2 cups cake flour
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon kosher salt
- 1 1/4 cups whole milk
Directions
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F and butter and flour two 9-inch round pans.
- Beat the butter and sugar with an electric mixer until pale and fluffy, 5 to 8 minutes.
- Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each, then mix in the vanilla.
- Whisk together both flours, the baking powder, cinnamon, and salt.
- Add the dry ingredients to the batter in three additions, alternating with the milk, beginning and ending with the flour.
- Divide between the pans and bake until a tester comes out clean, 28 to 32 minutes. Cool completely before frosting.
