Saucy, sweet-and-tangy ground beef piled onto toasted buns for the ultimate weeknight comfort sandwich.
Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
- 1 1/4 lbs ground beef sirloin
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 1 red bell pepper, finely chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, chopped
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon steak seasoning
- 1 tablespoon red wine vinegar
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 2 cups tomato sauce
- 2 tablespoons tomato paste
Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
- 4 burger rolls, split and toasted
Directions
- Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef and cook, crumbling, until browned, 4 to 5 minutes.
- Add the onion, bell pepper, and garlic and cook until softened, 5 minutes.
- Stir in the brown sugar, steak seasoning, vinegar, and Worcestershire.
- Add the tomato sauce and tomato paste, season with salt and pepper, and simmer until thickened, 5 to 7 minutes.
- Spoon the saucy beef generously onto the toasted rolls and serve.
