Sweet Breakfast Grits with Brown Sugar and Blueberries

Buttery, lightly sweetened grits topped with a warm blueberry-walnut compote.
Ingredients
- 1 cup grits
- 2 cups milk
- 2 cups water
Pinch of salt
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons butter
- For the compote: 2 cups blueberries, 2 tablespoons maple syrup, 1/2 cup chopped walnuts
Directions
- Bring the milk, water, salt, and sugar to a simmer, whisk in the grits, and cook until thick and creamy. Stir in the butter.
- Meanwhile, simmer the blueberries and maple syrup in a small pan until they burst and thicken; stir in the walnuts.
- Spoon the grits into bowls and top with the warm blueberry-walnut compote.
