Sweet Breakfast Grits with Brown Sugar and Blueberries

Buttery, lightly sweetened grits topped with a warm blueberry-walnut compote.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup grits
  • 2 cups milk
  • 2 cups water

Pinch of salt

  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • For the compote: 2 cups blueberries, 2 tablespoons maple syrup, 1/2 cup chopped walnuts

Directions

  1. Bring the milk, water, salt, and sugar to a simmer, whisk in the grits, and cook until thick and creamy. Stir in the butter.
  2. Meanwhile, simmer the blueberries and maple syrup in a small pan until they burst and thicken; stir in the walnuts.
  3. Spoon the grits into bowls and top with the warm blueberry-walnut compote.
